Why I used the name "Bornean clouded leopard" for the subspecies Neofelis diardi borneensis, rather than the species Neofelis diardi

Though the name was used for the species Neofelis diardi in 2007,[1] I want two things to be clear for readers:

1) The species Neofelis diardi is not endemic to the Sunda island of Borneo.

2) The subspecies Neofelis diardi borneensis is endemic to Borneo, and was recognised as being valid by the Cat Classification Taskforce of the Cat Specialist Group in 2017.[2] Leo1pard (talk) 07:30, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
