I reorganized the sections a bit to put the earlier (Hinayana) interpretations together (notably moving the 'Nirvana' section there) and bumped the section headings down 1 level for the Mahayana paragraphs; added a few wikilinks and added (I hope) clarifications here and there. Good article! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.139.6.67 (talk) 04:29, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please note, using Thanissaro's translation in this topic allows bias to creep in, as he is a well-known exponent of the "original mind" thesis. In particular, the Pali passage from the Anguttara says pabhassaram idam bhikkhave cittam, "This mind is radiant", not "*the* mind is radiant" per Thanissaro. Pali lacks a definite article. Here, idam serves to particularize and specify the kind of mind that is under discussion, i.e. the mind that is "developed" in meditation aka jhana. It is not a general statement about the nature of the mind. This error has been refuted countless times, nevertheless, it persists.
