Naming

[edit]

As noted on Jweiss11's talk page,my searches of contemporaneous newspaper accounts indicate that the school's WP:COMMONNAME was "Add–Ran" and less frequently "Add Ran" rather than the unhypenated and unspaced "AddRan". See, e.g., here, here, here, here. These same sources suggest the common name did not include "Christian". Cbl62 (talk) 12:47, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Similar WP:COMMONNAME results in 1900. It's either hyphenated (here, here, here) or spaced (here and here), but not unhyphenated and unspaced. Cbl62 (talk) 12:47, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Similar in 1899. E.g., here, here, here. Also some spaced "Add Ran" but no unspaced and unhyphenated usage found. Cbl62 (talk) 12:47, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Then there's this: here...Pvmoutside (talk) 14:05, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The web site is not a contemporaneous source from the era in question. I have no particular stake in the hyphen or inclusion of the "Christian" part; I just want to make sure our naming protocol matches the common usage at the time. My searches found not one contemporaneous source using the unhyphenated, unspaced "AddRan" version or referring to the school as "Add–Ran Christian". It would be interesting to see how the yearbooks referred to the school during the years in question, though I'm not sure if those yearbooks are readily available. That said, based on the current data, "Add–Ran" look like the right result under WP:COMMONNAME. Cbl62 (talk) 22:28, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
