Best to remove the pipe from the association football link in the lead. Unlikely as it is that a first time reader would be reading this article and not be aware of it, but it'd be better on the completely off chance occasion that someone more familiar with one of the other forms of football comes across it.
"the country's primary cup competition" - not sure about that statement, not that it isn't, only that you don't state the country that you're referring to.
"while Leeds were appearing in their first final" - you can drop the final from the end of that sentence as it'll be inherent.
I'd link Defender (association football) and Forward (association football) in the third paragraph of the lead.
Including the European Cup mention in the lead makes it sound like they qualified for the semi-final because of the win.
Under Leeds United, link in Football League Fourth Division (piped).
No full stop following "a sordid shambles that would have been flattered by being played on an ashpit"
Not sure which one it'd be, but perhaps link either Indirect free kick or Direct free kick?

Pipe link Overtime (sports) the first time you mention extra time.
Likewise with Penalty area.
References are good - not a GA issue, but I'd recommend that you archive as many of the web based ones as possible.
