The result of the proposal was Move. Seems to be the more common name for the regiment.Cúchullain t/c 18:10, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

1st United States Volunteer Sharpshooter Regiment1st United States Sharpshooters – This unit was officially designated as the 1st United States Sharpshooters. The words 'volunteer' and 'regiment' were never part of the designation. Although the soldiers were 'volunteers', the unit was activated by the U.S. War Department, thus giving the unit Federal Army (regular) status, not a volunteer regiment; as they are created by indivdual states who pledge them to the Union Army. relisted --Mike Cline (talk) 13:32, 27 May 2012 (UTC) Wi hooligan (talk) 15:52, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

  • Support- As shown on MG Berdan's gravestone at Arlington [1] (bottom photo; clearer picture than findagrave or others). Dru of Id (talk) 16:12, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Comment - The link in the article to a transcribed section from Dyer's Compendium shows their designation as 1st Regiment Sharpshooters. The section as a whole is titled U.S. Volunteers. I'd feel more comfortable about a title change with some other supporting documentation (sections showing how they're referenced in the OR, for example). Berdan's gravestone is one thing, but it's not quite the same as official records. Intothatdarkness (talk) 21:52, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

  • Oppose - Per my comment above. US Volunteers did exist, and are not the same thing as regular troops. Also, I'd prefer to see another authoritative source (a gravestone isn't necessarily authoritative in this sense) using the designation. As mentioned, Dyer does call them 1st Regiment Sharpshooters and they are in the U.S. Volunteers section. Intothatdarkness (talk) 14:20, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
