"perhaps the worst blues album ever made"

[edit]

Somebody should probably emend the entry to note that the reviewer for Living Blues magazine called it "perhaps the worst blues album ever made." Those words made me throw down LB and rush out to purchase the album. When reviewers for ethnographic journals such as LB insist that something is the worst of all time, what they usually mean is that it violates the religious creed that undergirds the journal's editorial policy. In this case, the reviewer for "the magazine of the African American blues tradition" resented the way in which the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion had interfused their punk sounds and attitudes with Burnside's sacred North Mississippi blues style. I thought it was an experiment worth making--and certainly NOT the worst blues album ever made.
