This table shows how the average ACE, and the number of tropical storms, hurricanes and major hurricanes, develop with the duration of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. Calculated from NOAA Hurricane Best Track Files (HURDAT)[1] for the same period (1951-2000) used for seasonal ACE norms.

Why is this here?[edit]

Why is this on a talk page? Shouldn't it be on the main page? JARED(t)  19:25, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I could see ACE having its own page, with relevant comparisons and rankings of various seasons. As for whether or not this is original research, I bet it would be considered such since it was not originally from any paper or meteorological website. It seems an easy question to avoid, if someone posted it onto their own website, and then linked to it. =) Thegreatdr 15:47, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Uh, it is from the HURDAT as linked to above, thus it is not original research. TimL 03:34, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd use the 1944-current time frame, since that is what TPC considers to be the most reliable part of the database, and its average stats are derived from that set of years. This could also be why your mean ACE calculation doesn't reach 100. Thegreatdr 13:32, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
