Paper Towns

potatoes, just potatoes

fyi, whoever Edits this - the Population of agloe Will actually be One until may 29th at Noon.

The above notice, with the same wording but variable capitalization, has been added here roughly once a year since October 2008. I've gathered all the responses to it in this single section. —Tamfang (talk) 01:29, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. May 29 of 2010 (next after the above was posted), 2013 (next after the last time some helpful reader added that datum to the article), or some other year?
Can you cite an outside reference where we can read more? Who is the sole resident, and what will happen (or happened) at noon on May 29? —Tamfang (talk) 07:10, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
You may want to read Paper Towns by John Green. The talk page of a wikipedia-like-encyclopedia plays a large role in the plot of the book. It looks like that a nerdfighter, editing as an IP address, added that comment as a tribute to the book. It isn't a big deal.
Bossraptor, please don't remove Tamfang's good faith questions. Removing people's comments like you have constitutes vandalism and edit warring. I would hate to see you blocked. DFTBA --Guerillero | My Talk 23:53, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
I just finished reading Paper Towns and I knew that this exchange was going to be in here. Thanks for making me smile, Nerdfighters and Wikipedians. And thanks for being awesome. Mtijn (talk) 14:55, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
I get that you can quote John Green. Nice allusion. Not relevant. Yangosplat222 (talk) 01:43, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
If someone will tell me more explicitly why those who aspire to half-witticism keep writing that twaddle (rather than writing other bits of twaddle), I'll forgive your spoiling the book for me. —Tamfang (talk) 01:33, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
In the novel Paper Towns, Margo, 18, vanishes in early May and plants various hints to where she may have gone, including the quoted sentence posted on the fictional version of this very page. The eccentric capitalization is hers. (I haven't read far enough to know whether the narrator gets there by noon.)
Now, how do Vlogbrothers come in? —Tamfang (talk) 07:32, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
  • Tamfang, John Green is one of the two Vlogbrothers. He's also author of The Fault in Our Stars, so he's a pretty big figure in the world of young adult literature. That his fans copy Margo's post to this talk page so often is to be expected, and I love them for it (although I wish they hadn't created a problem!). Denlah (talk) 02:42, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

Fictitious

I really don't think the "Agloe General Theater" actually exists. The store may even not exist. Google searches for it only turn up John Green and his experiments in creating a fake DJ/musician. I'm deleting that mention. Voxbaryton (talk) 22:14, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

John Green is a generally reliable sourse. That DJ was created to attempt to trick an online 20 questions game, but trust me this guy does his research.--TheGummyBearOverLord (talk) 04:52, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

John Green at TEDx

I'm trying to figure out how to do edits and citations and whatnot (I'm new to wikipedia) so if any of you reading this wants to do this instead, you can add the following citation for the bit about John Green: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mUDw0sRZV0 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scaredbunny (talkcontribs) 04:02, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Edit notice

I added an edit notice as an attempt to cut down on the number of Paper Towns allusions. What do you all think? --Guerillero | My Talk 03:38, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

Other sources?

Is there any other source for this story besides the linked Web page? I can't find anything else through Google. For example, do we know if anyone has ever been to this place or found the Agloe general store? --Frankg (talk) 17:22, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

well, I Know margo Roth spiegelman has. other than That, not Sure. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.199.202.98 (talk) 23:21, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

In the author's note of Paper Towns, John Green writes that the Agloe General Store is no longer standing. But, the book was published a while ago, so who knows now.

Removed the bit about the trap being effective

Esso was a gas company that distributed maps made by various companies including General Drafting. According to NPR, Esso indeed "bought that map from Lindberg and Alpers", the General Drafting founders. --NE2 02:50, 19 July 2014 (UTC)
