Additions to article

[edit]

I revised the section detailing how humans typically deal with the beetle’s destructive behavior towards oak trees. The original wording was too strong and potentially antagonistic towards the beetle. In accordance with Wikipedia's guidelines, I changed the language to be more neutral, and included more information on common predators and insecticides used. Additionally I added more hyperlinked terms to better integrate the article into Wikipedia. JacksonPanWashU (talk) 02:31, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Evolution

[edit]

I think it would be beneficial to include details about the evolution and classification of this species. Given that this species is part of the jewel beetle family, I am wondering how it differs from other species of jewel beetles and when it developed in evolutionary history. There is also one sentence describing the fact that the adult beetle can fly, though with no other details. More information should be included about this mechanism and why it is important/why it has evolved as a possible adaptive mechanism. Hipper2305 (talk) 18:23, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review: Great article! Amandayu19 (talk) 17:41, 11 April 2024 (UTC)I added some hyperlinks in the "Mating and Host Selection" paragraph to add context for viewers. I also made some grammar changes to this section, such as removal of unnecessary commas.[reply]

Feedback

[edit]

This entry on the Agrilus biguttatus, or the oak splendour beetle, provides detailed information about the Agrilus biguttatus life cycle and a good survey of the Agrilus biguttatus’ interactions with humans. I appreciate how this entry discusses the negative impact of Agrilus biguttatus on oak trees and lists countries that faced issues with dealing with Agrilus biguttatus. I also enjoyed learning about how the oak tree defends itself from Agrilus biguttatus and the methods humans are using to control Agrilus biguttatus infestation. One area of improvement for this entry is that more information about its habitat would be helpful to readers. Furthermore, more information about food resources will also be appreciated. Finally, make sure that the last sentences of each paragraph have an in-text citation if they are stating a fact from a reference. I noticed that the end of some paragraphs, such as the second paragraph of “Mating and Host Selection” does not contain a citation.

Here are some edits I made to this entry:

  • Added hyperlinks to certain terms to better integrate this article into Wikipedia
  • Added pictures to increase media content
  • Italicized the species name
  • Deleted in-text references that included the author’s name (such as “In a study conducted by [x] author…”) and instead added in the number hyperlinked to the reference seciton

Great work on this article! I liked that this article was very informative and explained everything that was discussed about the beetle so that readers could have a thorough understanding of the beetle. There were some formatting errors in this article that I fixed. First, the word pupation was originally spelled as “putation”, so I had to change that. I also linked some terms that seemed important to reference. There were many instances over the article where A. biguttatus, the species name, was not italicized, so I fixed those errors. I also decided to modify the caption of the video to include “laying eggs”, because this video was originally placed in the section that discussed this, and the video seems to display this behavior, so I think it’s a reasonable assumption that they’re laying eggs. I also reworded one of the sentences from “Development rates and temperature have a linear relationship” to saying “Development rates and temperature have a positive relationship”, because the following sentence described a positive relationship. Overall, I liked that while this article was informative and discussed many aspects of the beetle, there was also focus on its effect on tree infestations, which seemed important to address. This was a really great article, and it had been very informative! Everything was thoroughly discussed and provided a great insight into the beetle studied. I had gone through and added some hyperlinks to certain words to add more clarity to the text. -Kidest Eshetu — Preceding unsigned comment added by E.kidest (talkcontribs) 03:58, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
