Article needs some less abstract material

[edit]

I'm not a specialist in algebraic geometry, but it seems to me that this article could be equipped with some less abstract definitions and examples. An example of a less abstract definition might be a definition of some reasonably broad, but not the broadest imaginable, class of algebraic tori. Say, for example, over an algebraically closed field, or over the complex numbers. I presume one can do that without, for example, needing to use the notion of scheme. Such a definition, of course, gives rise to examples...
