Following up on Robinvp11 lead on missing footnote page numbers or 30-page span reference, as though citing an entire chapter ?, I found that there were only two footnotes to Freedman, Washington at Valley Forge, a children's book. I could not find a page number at the previews on either Google or Amazon, so I substituted the two cites to RS and Pulitzer prize winner already found in biography, Washington, A Life by scholar Ron Chernow, previously in the Bibliography for his 2010 hardback edition.
- Bibliography citation issue: My Chernow source is an ebook, year 2011, the same year as the Penguin paperback edition. I showed the 2011 year in the two footnotes as "Chernow 2010 (2011), p. xxx", with the page number that found in my ebook source.
- Any suggestions about how I can "tighten up" the footnotes? Thanks in advance for any guidance. - TheVirginiaHistorian (talk) 21:02, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
Bibliography disruption QUERY
Here's an interesting bit of disruption since I last inspected the "C-bibliography" around June-July. An editor had changed the source citation for Ron Chernow by adding the "mask-2" code to produce two dashes.
- Thus the ARW Bibliography in wp:error attributed Chernow's Washington, A Life to the author alphabetically place just above it, wp:error-René Chartrand. René, our freelance retired Canadian museum curator, is noted by his publisher Osprey for his collection of wines. Osprey is an imprint of Bloomsbury Publishing, made famous for its enviable turn-around, but nevertheless un-scholarly, Harry Potter series.
QUERY:Does the editor restriction to this page need to be ratcheted up a notch? - It seems that it will be difficult to achieve article "Good Article status" if the Bibliography cannot be made stable, free from wp:error apparent at reviewer first scan-through. I'll have to check, but perhaps it was me who made the error, as over the last year or so I have added a fair number of authormasks to the various sources. In any case, I wasn't aware that there is this restriction on the bibliography. If you see something that needs fixing I would just do so. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 21:05, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
@Gwillhickers: You probably did not make the error, as you have consistently added reliable sources factual in their accounts and useful for their insight that have stood the test of time. At the same time, you leave behind portions of their historiography that have become suspect of any "presentism" at the time of source writing.
I find it unlikely that you blanked out Bancroft's name at the moment of your edit preview just before publishing his Bibliography citations. - TheVirginiaHistorian (talk) 07:13, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
