To merge on the grounds of context and overlap, and the combined article isn't WP:TOOBIG. Klbrain (talk) 16:55, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I propose to merge American Samoa national football team all-time record into American Samoa national football team results. The majority of the information presented in the all-time record article is already duplicated from either the results article (although nine matches are missing and I'm not sure why) or American Samoa national football team#Competitive record. The content in the all-time record article can easily be explained in the context of the results article, and the results article is of a reasonable size that a merge will not cause any problems as far as article size is concerned. I would propose that the competitive record section isn't merged as it is just duplicated from the main national team article and that the rest, where it is not already included, be merged to American Samoa national football team results. The all-time page record also includes performances by venue and competition which does expand article quite a bit. I was also planning on adding a 'performance by manager' section, if I could find all the managers. Plus, this record has all "full international matches", whereas all the other tables say every match they played which includes matches against Wallis/Futana or Tuvalu who are not FIFA-affiliated. So I feel like if it gets merged, it will be the same table as the record with non-FIFA games. The competitive record also adds in relevance to the article like the England national football team and to cite the page more. --FastCube (talk) 12:35, 10 June 2021 (UTC)FastCube[reply]
The article size is only 128kB and there are only 149 words of readable prose - and that includes the competitive record which is an exact duplicate from the same section on the national team article - that could easily be included in the results article. The results article could also explain the difference between official and unofficial matches which would negate the need for this extra article. Please also be aware of WP:NOTSTATS, adding countless 'performance by ...' tables isn't always a good idea. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 17:15, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure all national teams are allowed to have their own split article on something like records, all-time record, results, etc. because of the reproduction of the same kind of article with England, France, Croatia. If there's no concern going to those articles, there's the reason I decided to try it with an Oceania team like American Samoa. If the main focus of this is the article size then, just because a national team hasn't played too many games shouldn't mean it's completely useless, because it will always expand further in the future. But somehow the article is still up, so I would keep going on until it's removed. --FastCube (talk) 13:12, 11 June 2021 (UTC)FastCube[reply]
All I'm thinking is it would be better to have all the information in one place rather than split it up when a team like American Samoa haven't played many games. I'm not saying 'Oh, it's Oceania, it doesn't matter', I just think that when we can have it altogether and easily accessible for people, we should. It is different for teams that have played hundreds of games, in England's case over 1,000, it would be far too big otherwise it would be better to have it all in one place for them as well.
