The earliest newspaper entry I could find for the game appears in "A Jolly Game", Belper News (2 Dec 1910), although it differs from the version described in the Wiki article. It only has 2 players and the first to strike their opponent's head 12 times wins. All earlier references (from 1880 onwards) are to the folk song "Are you there, Moriarty?". I've spotted a mention that the game was invented by the R.A.F. but it predates that. 82.12.192.171 (talk) 20:54, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
