Confusion Between OAV and TV Series[edit]

There may be spoilers for both the OAV and TV Series in the following paragraph.

Having seen both the OAV and TV Series for Battle Athletes (the OAV is Battle Athletes and the TV series is Battle Athletes Victory), I must say this article confuses aspects of both of the respective series. The biggest example is that in the OAV it is known that the training is related to an eventual athletic competition with aliens (this is covered in depth in the first 15 minutes actually), but in the TV series this is unknown until the final few episodes and it plays out less consensually for the humans in this case.

Also, there are a few differences in the characterizations eventhough both basically tell the same story. I'll clean it up myself someday if no one else gets to it. Marsman57 17:34, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yuri???[edit]

I have read the entire article twice and I didn't realize any signs of Shojo-ai about the series. In case of possible infatuations or solid relationships between female characters, that's insufficient to portrait this series as Yuri, so I'm going to take out this article from the category yuri. I hope this benefits both the article and the reputation of this anime series. --Twicemost 20:46, 18 September 2007 (UTC) Umm...this series IS Yuri. It is much more than just infatuations. Please watch the series before you make changes to the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.92.31.41 (talk) 04:19, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I put Yuri back in the article. Please watch the series before you make any changes to the article. It is clearly that it is much more than infatuation with multiple characters. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Animematt (talkcontribs) 04:23, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know. I agree that he should have watched the series before making a change like that (especially for the reputation of the series), but I'm not sure it's a bad one. Kris's mostly one-sided infatuation with Akari in Victory is the only thing that fits the bill (out of over a dozen female characters), and it's more for comedic purposes than anything else. When assigning a genre, it requires more than a simple element of something. If that's all it took, almost every movie ever made would qualify as a comedy because it contains a joke. Just about every mindless action movie could be called a romance because the hero has a love interest. Battle Athletes Victory might have an element of Yuri, but that doesn't automatically qualify it for the genre.--Son of lucas (talk) 07:58, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please see here: the series is not portrayed as yuri because its LGBT content is secondary, and that can't put the series in the genre and thus can't put its Wikipedia-dedicated article in that category. Cardcaptor Sakura has a lesbian character (Tomoyo), so does Sailor Moon (Haruka and Michiru), but the roles of those characters are minor in comparison with the overall plot of the series, and that's why the Yuri category does not exist for them. Happy editing. --Twicemost (talk) 19:58, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is more than just Kris, There is also Ichino. The names escape me at the moment (have not seen it in a while) But I know there are a couple other characters in there that are lesbian. Just cause it is not the main focus of the story, does not mean it should be dismissed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.119.210.17 (talk) 06:07, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
See the definitive reasons the series is not strictly yuri and stop insisting on saying the series is within the Yuri genre. --Twicemost (talk) 06:36, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

<sigh> Instead of concerning yourself about the minor point of what genre this is in, perhaps you can help me in improving the article. As it is, the whole thing is basically (re)written by myself, and I haven't seen either version in over 2 years. That's a rather sorry state of affairs.--Son of lucas (talk) 06:08, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't seen either version in about 2 years either. Don't even remember much about the OVA. (It didn't have ichino..so it bored me.) I woul;d be glad to try to help improve it. But my wikipedia know-how is rather lacking —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.119.210.17 (talk) 23:07, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, as the first step, the article needs at least one image to give it a nice presentation, as well as images for every character; the problem is that, because I don't live in the US but in Venezuela, I have little information about the fair use and all that, and because I tried to find images on a site where the author will no longer want to share his/her material to anyone else, I can't do too much about that. Step two, another important thing is to add a Characters section (I CAN do that), and to find what would be suitable for a Licensing section (although there isn't too mucho for this, as the only thing we know is that Geneon brough the anime to North America but no channel is interested to air it). At this moment, I am researching about the characters so I can make some traslations. --Twicemost (talk) 02:47, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The fair use is all greek to me. I know a bit about the characters, but not really enough to write a decent article. But, i have heard that there were very sall 'edits' in the series in the final episode. Thankfully nothing about Kris/ichino's relationship with Akari was edited out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.119.210.17 (talk) 15:04, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Geneon's dead, so I assume the liscensing is in limbo. Also, I know that animeondvd.com used to have it as one of their "recommended" titles, but it seems that the link on that site is broken.--Son of lucas (talk) 20:30, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
New sections have been added, now the article shouldn't be a stub anymore. What's next? --Twicemost (talk) 22:54, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Including citations on your development info would be wise. It's only a matter of time until it's tagged. Also, I should say that the reason I changed the name orders on Akari and Ichan is because it's common Wiki practice to put names in western order.--Son of lucas (talk) 13:45, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed Kris is not in the character list, and she is basically the second most major character in the series. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.119.210.17 (talk) 16:07, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

References have been added =). However, I couldn't find sources speaking about the games (in fact, I saw nothing named Battle Athletes nowhere, so I think that that portion of info would be in danger of deletion in some moment). Perhaps those games were only released in Japan (if so, I wouldn't be surprised). --Twicemost (talk) 23:34, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's been awhile since I've watched this series, but...[edit]

Akari Kanzaki ... realizes just how far she needs to go. Helping her are her fellow team members and roommates Kris Christopher, a frequently nude soon-to-be priestess from the moon, and Anna Respighi, a shy girl with a secret so hidden even she is unaware of it. Kris is marked as a standout athlete and competes on a level near Lahrri drawing the wrath of another top competitor Mylandah onto the team as they prepare for the final competition.

When did this happen in the series? Pakopako (talk) 19:26, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's pretty much every episode of the OVA. What part don't you remember?--Son of lucas (talk) 03:03, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Battle Athletes VictoryBattle AthletesBattle Athletes is the base name for both the OVA and TV series, the "Victory" part of the TV series's title is more of a way to distinguish it from the OVA series. —Farix (Talk) 11:39, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
