MacIain 'ic Sheumais[edit]

The name of the MacDonald leader at Carinish is first given Donald MacIain 'ic Sheumais, then Iain MacIain MacSheumais, then John Macian-MacJames. There seems to be confusion as to whether the prename is John or Donald, whether in the Gaelic or anglicised form. The first and third version of the full names are mixes of Gaelic and English.

In the sleeve notes of Recovery by Runrig, regarding the song 'Ic Iain 'Ic Sheumais, MacIain's name is given as Donald.

I'm not sure what the intention of the three versions of the name is but there appears to be some degree of error and redundancy. Assuming he is Donald, not Iain/John, should there be two names in the article Donald, son of John, son of James and something like (excuse my attempt at Gaelic) Dòmhnall Mac Iain 'ic Sheumais?
