Misleading format description in Lede?

[edit]

Currently the Lede states: "In each series a number of well-known performers alternate as the central artist who picks songs out of their own repertoire to be sung by the others."

I can't speak for the previous series, but in 2019's Season 12 the week's central artist or "couch subject" did not pick the songs the others would sing that week. Instead they each considered the subject's repertoire and preferences (learned in part from conversations with the subject), and themselves chose a song which might be from the subject's repertoire, or might instead have some other personal significance for them. The subject was only told which song each performer was to sing immediately before its performance.

As an example, in 2019 Floor Jansen chose to sing for Henk Poort the Vilja Lied from Franz Lehár's The Merry Widow because Henk's mother had often sung it to him when he was a child, and Henk sang for Floor Simon and Garfunkel's The Sound of Silence in the style of the previous cover by Disturbed for multiple reasons, but not because it was in her own repertoire. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.122.56.20 (talk) 07:27, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
