According to David Wasserstein (TLS 25 Feb2011 pp 14 & foll), the Book of Judith is excluded from the Jewish as well as the Protestant canons and does not survive in the original Hebrew but only in Greek and later translations, while the place Betulia is fictional. Even the New Catholic Encyclopedia has backed down on its authenticity. Hence this article is nonsense. Deipnosophista (talk) 10:17, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
- A fictional work can be set in a real place. Many are, in fact. In my distant youth I read a book about the Apocrypha that explained the Atbash cipher, and used it to decrypt all but two of the place names in the book of Judith. As I recall, Bethulia resolves itself to either Shechem or Samaria. Not sure, though. J S Ayer (talk) 20:32, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
