French Bibliotheque royale

[edit]

@Macrakis: What is the basis for calling the French library the Bibliothèque royale? It is not listed on the French dab page. Srnec (talk) 14:47, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It turns out that the name "Bibliothèque royale" has a long history:
  • In the bookmarks of the library itself [1]
  • In a book about the Bibliothèque du Roi (1856), sometimes generically talking about royal libraries, but often about the French monarch's library [2]
  • In the decree establishing the library [3]
  • "the Bibliothèque nationale, the heir of the Bibliothèque royale" [4]
It could be argued that these are mistakes of one kind or another, but even if they are, a DAB page is useful to help find the standard name.
Thanks for your attention to detail on this! --Macrakis (talk) 15:32, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
