Trivia & Goofs
[edit]Was it the top or the bottom of the ninth (or the bottom of an extra inning) when Moseby caught the ball? I say this because:
- If it was the top of the ninth, then:
- The Yankees would have been batting (the Red Sox, being the home team, would have had last bats), and, assuming the catch would have been the third out, either:
- If the game was tied or the Yankees were leading, then the game would continue into the bottom of the ninth.
- Or, if the Red Sox were leading, the game would be over and the Red Sox would win.
- A home run would in any case have resulted in the top of the ninth continuing.
- The Yankees would have been batting (the Red Sox, being the home team, would have had last bats), and, assuming the catch would have been the third out, either:
- Otherwise, if it was the bottom of the ninth (or an extra inning):
- A catch, if the third out, would mean:
- The Yankees would win if they were ahead
- Or, the game would continue to an(other) extra inning of the game were tied. (The game would already be over had the Red Sox been leading.)
- A home run would mean:
- The Red Sox would win IF AND ONLY IF that would put them into the lead.
- Otherwise, the game would continue.
- A catch, if the third out, would mean:
What I am saying is that the Yankees (being the away team, who does not have last bats) could only possibly win by retiring the Red Sox in the bottom of the ninth (or an extra) inning. Only the Red Sox could win on a home run. Finally, the game would have to continue on a foul ball, as runners are not permitted to advance in that case. Hallpriest9 21:53, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
