Talk:Big data analytics
Merge
[edit]The original author of this article claims in the edit summary of the first edit: big data analytics is different topic than big data. I have to ask how. The Big data article is almost entirely focused on the techniques needed to analyze large data sets, so how is "big data analytics" a separate topic? Agreed, there are similarities - however, Big Data as a blanket topic certainly covers much more than analytics. There are Big Data challenges of storage, for example, and impacts on data warehousing. SQL, NoSQL, - there are entire new database technoloqies that have emerged to address the facets of Big Data. There are key differences, for example, between databases and database management systems - I firmly believe there are differences between 'Big Data' as a technological - and economical - phenomenon, and Big Data Analytics as a technological challenge requiring a specific technical solution. - There is not sufficient content in the current article to support the argument that a separate article is needed. I might argue that the page exists solely to provide justification to link to the eCirrus site. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:48, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
Noted - I have additional content of a technical nature to add, most likely EOD. I'm happy to remove the corporate link if that is more in the spirit of Wiki. I'll go ahead and do that. Let's revisit this discussion in a few days. A number of Big Data Analytical professionals have been invited to contribute to the page as we type so it should be much more fleshed-out in a very short time. :) Tissa Richards (talk) 21:51, 19 April 2012 (UTC)Tissa
The following note has been moved from the article to the talk page, as it pertains to article development, not to the actual subject of the article itself. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:03, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- Additional technical information forthcoming from data scientist re the data rates and pressures on processing systems specific to analytical models. Additionally, references to PMML and the feedback loops of predictive modeling and analytics are forthcoming
I have restructured the article to read more like a Wikipedia article (see the manual of style), and less like a blog or magazine article. Awaiting the addition of technical material that will differentiate this article from big data. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:21, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Offer of Assistance
[edit]I agree that there is not yet enough content to distinguish this page from the parent. Tissa Richards - as the entry's creator, could you perhaps post a rough outline of what you envision? While I'm no expert on Big Data, I am a fairly skilled researcher. If provided with a framework I would be happy to assist. Lwsimon (talk) 13:37, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Discussion closure
[edit]In light of unfulfilled promises of article improvement, I am going to go forward and redirect this article to big data. Editors are free to revert this redirect and continue to improve the article, but given the lack of activity for over 3 weeks, it is unlikely the original author intends to return to this work.
