Split

The parts about Asian box turtles should be split to create an article (stub, at this point) entitled Box turtle (Asian). As the lead of this article indicates, there is so little similar between North American and Asian box turtles that they are not even in the same family. To leave them both in this article will cause quite a bit of confusion when going into details such as diet, habitat, etc. --Wordbuilder 00:34, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Or merge?

According to this graphic accessed from the page about terrapins, "box turtle" is the US term for the English tortoise. Should the two pages be merged? Wavehunter 21:15, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

This may be the way to go. Split off the entire wild turtle portion of the article and merge it with Terrapin. Merge the remaining information with Pet turtles. I'm not comfortable with the way that pet is combined with wild in the present article. →Wordbuilder 21:08, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Merger proposal

The portion about turtles in captivity should be part of the already existing article Pet turtles. It should not be part of the Box turtle article. →Wordbuilder 14:14, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Mislabeled picture?!

Turtle in drainage ditch -- unless it is so dirty, it's marks are covered up, that isn't a box turtle. Possibly a musk turtle, but I only know eastern seaboard turtles, so it's not exactly like any turtle I've seen. My brother collected turtles, growing up, with over 200 box turtle, even got a couple to mate so had a mother turtle meet her babies, along with some paint turtle, a snapper occasional, a musk once in a while, and bought turtles that weren't made to survive South Jersey, so didn't live for more then a year. Anyway, with that I've seen a slew of box turtle, but have neve seen one without any yellow markings in its shell. If it is a really muddy box turtle, you might want to note that. I added the image and am not sold that it's a box turtle so I removed it. →Wordbuilder (talk) 14:32, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
