Northrop and Casey
[edit]Several claims about William Northrop's ties to William Casey were added to the article that appear to be wrong. The article currently says:
Northrop sought Casey's telephone logs, claiming to have spoken with Casey on a monthly basis since 1981 and that Casey knew of and approved of the deals.[2] Casey never produced the logs but a postmortem review of Casey's files affirmed these monthly contacts with Northrop. Testifying to Congress, Casey denied this connection with Northrop and stated Furmark told him in October 1986 about the possible diversion of funds from arms sales to Iran.
Northrop's lawyer did indeed file a request for Casey's phone logs, but this was in August 1988, after Casey's death. It is thus odd to say that Casey never produced the logs. I have not found Northrop mentioned in any of the 30 odd volumes of Congressional reports on Iran-Contra; he only appears in the Joint Committee report on the October Surprise allegations, and the tapes are not mentioned there. I have found no source anywhere for the claim that the "logs" were reviewed or confirmed Northrop's claim to have been in touch with Casey. The claim that Casey "denied" a connection with Northrop in Congressional testimony is sourced to an LA Times article by Bob Drogin. This article in fact does not mention Northrop at all. I will therefore delete this claim from the article.
As far as I can tell, Northrop never claimed to have had any contacts with Casey until after Casey's death in May 1987. Rgr09 (talk) 15:02, 26 August 2019 (UTC)
