Stuff from the pre-table version of the awards list that wouldn't fit in the table but might be useful for the article

(And yes I know it's weird to put a references section on a talk page, but I wanted the references to show up, and this seemed like the simplest way.)

  • 1989 was the award's first year[1] twelve recipients were selected.[2]
  • 1991 awards: Sixteen recipients were given $1,500 grants.[3]
  • 1992: Ten awards were given with $1,500 grants to each recipient. (One team shared an award and it's grant.)[4]
  • 1998 awards: Twelve recipients were given $1,500 grants.[5]
  • 2006 awards: Recipients were given $2,500 grants.[6]
  • 2008 awards: Twentyfive recipients were given $3,000 grants.[7]
  • 2011 awards: Twentyfive recipients were given $3,000 grants.[8][1]
