Byzantine Empire[edit]

Is it named after the Byzantine Empire?-- (talk) 23:47, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

The color purple in general represents decadence and sensuality, which the aristocracy of the Byzantine Empire is associated with, so that is why the name of the city of Byzantium that was originally on the site of Constantinople was applied to the dark purple textile color Byzantium when it was formulated in 1926, and the name of the Byzantine Empire to the brighter purple textile color Byzantine when it was formulated in 1924. As we recently saw at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thistle (color) and similar recent AfD's, many of these color stubs aren't notable enough to have their own articles, and should instead be redirected/merged into larger articles with lists of these colors. I propose merging this into Purple#Additional variations. I do not believe that this color is notable enough to have its own article. There also isn't too much content here, so there wouldn't be any problems in it only occupying a section of a list.--Slon02 (talk) 01:11, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

Can't argue with this logic. By all means. PurpleHeartEditor (talk) 01:24, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
  • There is no reason to merge this article now. I just added two more tones of the color byzantium and a byzantium in human culture section. Keraunos (talk) 00:25, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Given the recent additions, I'd like to withdraw my support from merging.--Slon02 (talk) 02:09, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Note: There is a discussion being held here about whether to merge minor colors into articles on the physical objects that they represent or into color-list articles.--Slon02 (talk) 22:58, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
