This article is written in American English, which has its own spelling conventions (color, defense, traveled) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus.

Byzantine Empire[edit]

The color purple in general represents decadence and sensuality, which the aristocracy of the Byzantine Empire is associated with, so that is why the name of the city of Byzantium that was originally on the site of Constantinople was applied to the dark purple textile color Byzantium when it was formulated in 1926, and the name of the Byzantine Empire to the brighter purple textile color Byzantine when it was formulated in 1924. Merge[edit]

As we recently saw at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thistle (color) and similar recent AfD's, many of these color stubs aren't notable enough to have their own articles, and should instead be redirected/merged into larger articles with lists of these colors. I propose merging this into Purple#Additional variations. I do not believe that this color is notable enough to have its own article. There also isn't too much content here, so there wouldn't be any problems in it only occupying a section of a list.--Slon02 (talk) 01:11, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

An entry in List of colors: A–F contained a link to this page.

The entry is :

I don't see any evidence that this color is discussed in this article and plan to delete it from the list per this discussion: Talk:List_of_colors#New_approach_to_review_of_entries
