Assessment
[edit]Hello. I'm wanting to make a start on assessing the Scottish hill articles covered by the Wikipedia:WikiProject_British_and_Irish_hills project. I have never done assessing before and am finding it hard to differentiate between Start and B class articles in particular (especially with the examples present under the project). It seems to me that for a lot of Scottish hills then the amount of detail we have on an article like this one is sufficient for an encyclopedic entry, however, reading the more generic assessment criteria (Wikipedia:WikiProject_British_and_Irish_hills/Assessment#Quality_scale) it would seem more is required.
These are my thoughts on improving this particular article then:
- Under Geography include more details about drainage and nearby peaks, burns and other features
- Under Ascents include possible alternatives and perhaps discuss problems with descending to Corrour bothy?
- Find out anything more about the history of this mountain and anything that might set it out regarding wildlife, scientific interest, geology etc
- General improvements to language used - remove some of the less encyclopedic phrases such as 'in reality' etc
- Geography includes some 'ascent' type details such as the 'long hard walk to MacDui' which should be tidied up
I hope this is a good way of approaching the assessment process. Please let me know your thoughts. Nick Ottery (talk) 09:35, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
