The 'Canal Defence Light' cover name was intended to suggest that the device was to be used along and around the Suez Canal area. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.7.147.13 (talk) 11:17, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Do you have a reference (book, website, journal) for that? Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:59, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid not, I just remember reading about it many years ago. Can't remember the book, although it would have been a reputable one. I just put the comment above because I thought someone might wonder why it was called that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.7.147.13 (talk) 13:51, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Dazzler_(weapon)#Origins
"Whirling Spray was a system of search lights fitted with rotating mirrors which was used to dazzle and confuse pilots attacking the Suez canal. This was developed into the Canal Defence Light ..."
Refers to a TV Programme ! "Real Lives: Magic at War". Channel 4.
