Controversy section
[edit]I've added a section on the festival's recent controversial depiction of Jewish characters. The initial edit had two brief sentences describing the images and existence of the controversy.
An additional editor added the following text without citation. I've removed it for the time being until it can be cited more completely. It also needs a rewrite for clarity, which would be facilitated if someone would add the citation:

UNESCO also recalls that this carnival was inscribed in 2010 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, as was the beer culture in Belgium since 2017 and that the satire spirit of Aalst Carnival and the freedom of expression can not serve as a screen for such manifestations of hatred. "Beyond the values of respect and these indecent caricatures, this goes against the founding principles of the intangible heritage of humanity," said Ernesto Ottone Ramírez, deputy director of culture, quoted in the statement.

We need to keep an eye on this page. Of course some people will want to avoid having an accurate account of events regarding the antisemitic themes of the parade, let's collect sources so when they continue deleteing the section we can call an Editor to block the page from editing so the article contains accurate historical information for present and future generations to see. I suggest these articles as source material:

Yes, I guess I was being preemptive, some people were just deleting the Controversy section, and I predict they will continue to try, so I'm just getting warmed up :) Elazar.Pimentel (talk) 23:15, 24 March 2019 (UTC)
