Reaching the finals

[edit]

Notice: reaching the finals is indeed an honor worthy of notice. Society gives notice to not just 1st place, but also 2nd and third place in major events, as shown in the olympics, 2nd and 3rd place are also given awards and showered with praise. Reaching the finals also shows that you are one of the best, if not THE best, in the league. last time I checked being one of the most skilled and highest praised in a pro sports league is what kids dream of. got it? good, cuz i aint gonna stop.

I'd rather see US Open Cup and MLS Cup sections for all the teams, like the Kansas City Wizards page has; if a team reaches the final, that'll show in "Final, 2-3 loss to DC United" rather than as an entry in a runners-up section. that said, some (for-profit) media outlets do count losing a cup final as an "honor" and list it with the other silverware. I prefer Nateji's method too (although I would do it like on national team pages, just say "semifinals", or "first round", because pointing out losses dwells on the negative). It is way cluttering where in the honors section. But second-best out of 10 teams? It is NOT an honor. What's next, we're gonna mention the Atlantic Cup? Give me a break. This is NOT the Olympics, like you say on your talk page. In the Olympics, there are 200 countries and/or numerous athletes. There are 10 -- now 12 -- MLS teams. Talk to any MLS player, do they consider getting to the final an honor? NO. Just winning it. They could care less if they finish second or ninth. I would sure like to see a kid which grows up saying "I want to go to the MLS final and lose it! That will be so great!" --Dryazan 14:43, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Considering that 5 out of the 10 teams (pre season 10) specifically mention reaching the finals on their history section?.

Just might be good to have some info that CANT be found on the team?s website, the first place people would look if they want to dig up some info on a team. Finals, attendance, all time record, stuff that isn?t on DC United, LA?s, or any team?s website. I had to google search for most crap, and it wasn?t all in the same place. Hell, it might make Wikipedia an MLS fan?s first place to look for information on their team. But hey, I?m new, if ya want ill leave this kind of shit to the experts, but I?m just trying to do my part for the community??..

Oh, no problems with that (and _I_ wrote most of those), they are important things in club history, but they should just not be in the honors sections. I am thinking of adding a section to each page which will look something like this:
YearDivisionPlayoffsOpen Cup
19963rd, EastQuarterfinalsDid not enter
19975th, EastDid not qualifySemifinals
19983rd, EastQuarterfinalsSemifinals

etc. If you want to help out with that, or anything else, that is great. Sorry if I came off as all negative. --Dryazan 19:06, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

a year by year analysis of how they did sounds good to me. if ya need any help with that ill be glad to help out, and for the mean time ill be working on attendance, all time record, and stuff like that.

glad we could be friends :)

we have the Major League Soccer 1996 Season (and the like for 97-04) pages, if you really want detailed info on game-by-game attendance and stats i'd suggest a Kansas City Wizards 1996 Season and the like as a better place for those; keep the team pages from being too crowded. i think the way ive got the int'l competition section done on kcw is a bit much, but week-by-week home attedance...

the marketing people do like to point out when the place finish, but that's not a formal "honor" in the same sense the silver ball is a formal honor. i'd say play around with some

  • 1996:rank in conference, place in cup
  • 1997:rank in conference, place in cup

lists till you find a format that makes you happy. Nateji77 14:00, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Under assistant coaches, Frank Klopas has two listings. He should have one, separated by commas, and the second should be through 2022, as he is now interim HC 50.234.16.226 (talk) 16:20, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
