Translation of exaltado[edit]

I retranslated exaltado to "extremist," from the previous "exited." I'm using the HarperCollins Spanish-English Dictionary. (An on-line version can be found here.) "Exited" is a correct, but general, translation, and in this context the political meaning is more appropriate. The term was used throughout the Spanish world during this period, for example during the Cadiz Cortes. TriniMuñoz (talk) 05:01, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I shouldn't need to do this, since the issue concerned is both minor and common-sense, I'm amazed it was contested. But since the edit I made last month to the flags was reverted under the rather bizarre accusation of "distorting reality", here's a note as to why I made the change and why I've put it back. The simple fact is that using multiple flags for a single belligerent, and then using those flags inconsistently through the commanders section defeats the entire point of the infobox: a quick, easy to understand summary of key information. For the general reader—a person who is unfamiliar with the subject matter and quite likely with historical Chilean flags as well; that is to say the Wikipedia target audience—using three flags when one is sufficient is simply confusing, not to mention messy for presentation. The infobox is not the place to note the history of the Chilean flag in such a way: how the flag design evolved isn't an essential part of understanding the overall conflict that needs to be conveyed in the infobox. The modern Chilean flag was the one in use the longest during this war, thus use of that one is the most logical for displaying the items associated to the Chilean forces in the conflict. I entirely fail to see how this can be construed as distorting history, finding a single, most common or most longstanding insignia to define something when multiple possible insignia are available is a fairly standard practice.

I also ask the reverter is more careful in future with undoing revisions, various other tweaks that bypassed redirects, made a few wikilinks more relevant, made consistent the usage of the {{flagicon}} template and improved presentation were also removed by simply hitting undo without extra thought. -- Sabre (talk) 22:06, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The decisive contribution of the squadron of Chile formed by British captains and sailors to won the war at sea, that chileans lost before, must be reflected in combatants. Chile is not recognized by Spain. Unrecognized state until 1822 by the United States and for the United Kingdom in 1825. Therefore its flags have the value of a faction but not of a recognized state, before 1822.--Caminoderoma (talk) 10:50, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
