What does this mean?[edit]

"Crichton was taken prisoner but, considering the fate of Montrose was probably fortunate that he died of his wounds before he met a similar end."
Does the "he" refer to Crichton or to Montrose? We are also not told what the "fate of Montrose" was, so have no way of knowing whether it was fortunate or not. Kiltpin (talk) 12:58, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • "he" would be Crichton, "the fate of Montrose" would be James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose whose fate was execution and his body parts dismembered. Perhaps there should be a comma between ...Montrose[,] was..., however the sentence is clear to me. Yours ever, Czar Brodie (talk) 10:19, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
