Confusion and overlap

A lot of the properties labelled as properties of CKCE are actually due to movements being compound, as opposed to closed-chain.

For example: if you look at the roman board, it is clearly a quadriceps emphasis movement, and the hip joint only flexes to shorten the lever as opposed to actually lifting the body. In theory this could be made an isolation movement by keeping the hip extended, but most people (even removing weights) wouldn't have strong enough quads to lift them up).

That's clearly a closed-chain movement, but not really a compound movement in spirit.

Similarly, the leg press (where the foot sled moves) is a compound pressing movement, even though it is open-chain. It doesn't suffer from the shearing and muscle isolation flaws that single-joint versions like the knee extension machine do. Y12J (talk) 00:34, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
