Specialties Update[edit]

FYI, as part of cleaning up unreference/under-referenced articles, I've updated the specialties section with the official USN descrtiptions of the CT rates. I've also linked to the rate card for each of the rates, which are publically available (not an OPSEC violation). I left some of the information for CTT as that broke out some of the different NECs. --Tcxspears (talk) 20:36, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

CTRs no longer chase ditties?[edit]

Currently, under the "Specialities" section it states: "Collection (CTR) – Voice communications and operation of radio direction finding equipment"

In my day, about 40 years ago, R-branchers were trained to receive and translate International Morse Code messages (often in the form of encrypted letter or number groups) into printed text via typewriter. I realize the use of Morse has diminished, and that modern software does a fairly good job of translating dits and dahs into printed text, but are CTRs nolonger involved with Morse intercept work? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kjhalliwell (talkcontribs) 15:35, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just learned from a currently active CTR1, wearing a strange looking new style navy uniform, that Morse Code is still taught at Cory Field. So, it appears that at least a few CTRs are still chasing ditties.Ken (talk) 13:47, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just graduated A-School and I have walked by an active Morse Code class. I had a couple guys in my class(not Navy but Army and Air Force equivalent CTR) that got orders to go to Morse school. But you are right - a lot of us go out into the field and do other things than "Voice communications and operation of radio direction finding equipment", as I am experiencing that myself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.2.120.96 (talk) 14:17, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CT hall of fame[edit]

I hope nobody misunderstands, but I'm not at all convinced that someone blown up in a hotel qualifies as famous. That isn't near the same league as the Liberty or various aircrew incidents. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hax4bux (talkcontribs) 04:59, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This old comment is now resolved. I've deleted the entire list of notables. At first I thought we could give a listing of career Navy CTs to give examples of how they progress in their careers, but I could not find any in my search of WP. Then, to be balanced on whether or not this rating should or should not have a Notables section, I reviewed all of the available ratings articles on WP. (My thought was that different ratings might have such listings. I found that ONLY the Hospitalmen and Boatswain's had such sections. The Hospital men section had notables, which I deleted out. But I left the listing of Medal of Honor HMs. The BMs had a listing of non-career and non-USN BMs, which I deleted. The only ones remaining were BMs recognized for heroism, and a career CBM. I left these in.--S. Rich (talk) 22:35, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

CTNs are now CWTs.[edit]

On June 23, 2023, VADM Cheeseman signed NAVADMIN 147/23 establishing the CWT rating, merging all current and future CTNs into this rating, eliminating the latter. I don't typically make major content changes to Wikipedia, so it'd be greatly appreciated if someone else could take the reins here and update the article.
