Could someone please confirm and state that Dar ul-Funum was (is?) in Teheran. Fritz@Joern.De
- Dar al-Fonun was "merged into" Tehran University. This is stated in the Dehkhoda's dictionary and in Encyclopedia Iranica:[1]--Zereshk 18:19, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Another Dar ul-Funun:
In 1845, during the time of the Ottoman emperor Abd-ul-majid Khan included the idea of Dar ul-Funun was included as a school of asciences in the education programme released by the Temporary Education Concil.
A land plot near to Hagia Sophia Church/Mosque was allocated for the project and afterwards the construction begun in 1846 based on the project designed by the italian architect Fossati.
While the construction was going on, education started in the form of an open university wicth lectures given by the top local scientists of the time on the subjects of biology, physics, geography, astronomy and applied physics. The education was interrupted after a fire destroyed all of the teaching material in 1865 and commenced only in 1869.
The construction finished and the school oficially opened in 20 February 1870.
In 1871 the scool was closed by the emperors decree due to the breeding of some controversional ideas not liked by the monarch.
Re-opened in 1874 within the Licee de Galatasaray with the name Dârülfünûn-i sultanî, The Royal Institute of Technology. But again some controversy caused the closure in 1887.
For the forth time, in 1900 the school was re-opened and continued its education uninterruptedly even during the first WW while Istanbul was occuupied.
With the Ottoman Empire fading into the pages of history and birth of the Republic of Turkey the school changed it's name to İstanbul Üniversitesi, University of Istanbul.

Bina için taninmis italyan mîmâr Fossati getirilip projeler yaptirildi. 1846 yili Ekim ayinda Ayasofya Camii yakinindaki bir arsada temel atildi. Darülfünun ögretimini tâkib edebilecek seviyede ögrenci yetistirmek maksâdiyle lise seviyesinde dârülmaârif adiyla bir okul kuruldu (1849).
Important aspect:
The article depicts Dar ul-Funun as the higher education institution, but the list of the alumnis contains some figures who could only have passed Dar ul-Funun later in its time as a high school in the Pahlavi Era - after the establishment of the University of Tehran. --Anoushirvan (talk) 19:36, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
