Text and/or other creative content from Diatype was copied or moved into Register (sociolinguistics) with this edit. The former page's history now serves to provide attribution for that content in the latter page, and it must not be deleted as long as the latter page exists.

Although this article does quite well to make clear the theoretical distinction between dialect and diatype, I don't think the example given of AAVE fits very well. AAVE could be a diatype just as well as a dialect; some speakers of AAVE (like myself) do not use it at all in daily life. Thoughts? Dawson 19:16, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge to Register (sociolinguistics)

The more commonly used term for a variety of language associated with a particular context of use is register. I can find only five articles that use the term diatype (in the relevant sense - searching is complicated by the existence of the term DIA-type apparatus in physics). Since it is only about 200 words, Diatype could easily be made a section of the page Register (sociolinguistics). Cnilep (talk) 16:59, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
