1924 retroactive?

[edit]

The NCAA records book marks both 1924 and 1925 as retroactive selections. I believe this is a misunderstanding... the Rissman trophy was awarded retroactively for those two years after being created for 1926. But the 1925 selection has been shown to be contemporary, and 1924 may have been as well.

Dickinson seemingly wrote a column in Big Ten Weekly where he made the selections.

In the citation used to show that the 1925 Dartmouth selection was contemporary, Dickinson writes:

No team will ever monopolize the national championship. Readers of the Big Ten Weekly may recall that the 1924 champion was Notre Dame, with California second and Yale, third. Their names are absent this year, except for Notre Dame's honorable mention.

This January 1926 story also mention's Dickinson's Big Ten Weekly column as the source of the Dartmouth selection.

In an article in the current issue of the Big Ten Weekly, he ranks the teams as follows: 1. Dartmouth.

I can't find any newspaper citations for a contemporary selection of Notre Dame for 1924. But it seemingly exists in an issue of this hard-to-find magazine. Not sure how to track down the article.
