At least the part about LZ78 "at the beginning of the encoding process, the dictionary only needs to contain entries for the symbols of the alphabet". LZ78 doesn't do this, the dictionary starts off empty, and even raw symbols get added to the dictionary. LZW stores or emulates storing of the symbols in the dictionary.
