In its coverage of Irish dioceses the DHGE provides evidence for fluctuations in ecumenical relations and ecclesiastical perception of otherness. Early entries not surprisingly omit Church of Ireland bishop lists. In 1960 Derry has a list of Protestant bishops. Thereafter Anglican bishop lists appear for Down&Connor, Dromore, Dublin (1960), Elphin, Emly (1963), Ferns (1967).
