"whose students place in the professional category"

What does that sentence even mean? ("DigiPen is the only educational institution whose students place in the professional category at the Game Developers Conference")

The Game Developer's Conference has an Independent Games Festival competition there, where the best Indie games win awards. There are two competitions: The student competition and the professional competition. Most student games aren't strong enough to be selected as finalists in the professional categories. The few student games that have made the professional categories were DigiPen games. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.192.186.101 (talk) 19:24, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

I agree, this sentence is poorly written, and is also not true - stating that Digipen games have been nominated in professional categories every year since 2004 - I am going to modify it. Klockard (talk) 11:31, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Comparing the IGF wins

21 games placing in the various categories at the IGF in 6 years is impressive. In order to inform the reader who is not familiar with the IGF its awards, the factual reference to the next best record by any school is appropriate. I suppose we could go into detail about how many awards the IGF has handed out every year, but since it has varied over the years (10 at the maximum for student projects to 6 at the minimum), and that could get rather cumbersome and wordy. In order to succinctly state the achievement and how it stands out, I believe context is called for. I think it would be acceptable (but a weaker statement of achievement) to not include the fact that Georgia Tech is second on the list, and just have the number: . The next three closest institutions placing in the student showcase have placed five, four and three, respectively, over six years.

-- why not just make a seperate page that lists all schools and award counts that have entered (winning or not) into the IGF competition since it started then keep a running tally of them in order of most wins to least wins, perhaps make links for each school that entered that goes to their individual wiki pages. Then just link that page as a ref on the DigiPen wiki page instead of talking about who got second, etc. directly on the DigiPen page. If people are confused, they can follow the ref link instead.

I have ordered the list for clarity, but would appreciate someone making another pass on it to follow Wikipedia date conventions and to make the list more organized BaShildy (talk) 21:16, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Someone reverted the list back to its full form. This list is growing too large and needs to be a separate article or summarized. BaShildy (talk) 06:11, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Ridge Racer

This tidbit in the trivia section seems wrong: "A car in Ridge Racer 64 for Nintendo 64 is labeled as DigiPen Racing. This is most likely related to Shigeru Miyamoto signing the faculty conference table, who is head of Nintendo."

I doubt this has anything to do with Miyamoto. It is more likely due to the fact that members of DigiPen's faculty worked on RR64.

Abbott

Is there any reason Abbott should be in the notable professors section? Has he done anything outside of DigiPen to warrant it? I don't want to just remove him as I don't know his history. Ecks 02:33, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm not entirely sure we should be talking about what the CS courseload entails in the education section. Perhaps a subsection of the Education section where it talks about all the different majors (CS, art, masters, CE) separately? Ecks 17:13, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Sounds more like an advertisement.

Should companies really be writing their own wikipedia entries? There are no citations for any of the facts, and it speaks directly and gives advice to people who might be "considering Digipen."

I'm not sure what you're saying exactly, care to expand? Ecks 07:12, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

These problems remain. Yes, this article is written too much like a recruitment info sheet. More text on the institute in terms of notability is needed (independent refs to awards for example) and heavy pruning on the number of credits needed per semester, etc. The notability of the subject is probably not at issue, but independent sources are needed for awards, importance in the industry, etc., and the article needs to be rewritten to be encyclopedic rather than as a recruitment answer sheet.Professor marginalia 04:32, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Just placed a ref to the IGDA awards website, where the list of previous winners can be found. I couldn't find another place where the awards had all been gathered together. I think the number of credits is a valid comment, as it is one of the things that makes DigiPen different. I think the article has been almost entirely written by students and alumni-- perhaps if we did get someone from the administration, they'd compose it in a more appropriate fashion (unless someone can think of a non-biased author with deep knowledge of the institute). It really does need to be more factual and less personal-- Ideas? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.28.192.186 (talk) 19:10, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

you know why 7-11 has the best sales?

cause they are really really cheap there. And they have alot more food then the cafeteria.

Fair use rationale for Image:Digipen.jpg

Image:Digipen.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:19, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Singapore

It would be nice to see some info on the new Singapore campus - http://singapore.digipen.edu/ . I might add something myself later, but of course I'm a busy DIT student ~~

--- I'm not even sure we really know anything about the Singapore campus other than it exists. Do we? Ecks 15:37, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Art Building

The article says they are "in talks" or something. Hasn't this already happened, and the art students have moved? --Alph Tech STUART 16:09, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

The building is not 100% official yet as no one has moved in yet because they're doing construction on it. They're expecting it to be done by September. Ecks 15:46, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

--update-- yes, there is a "new" art building and yes the students who are majoring in the art program will spend the majority of their time there now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DigiGamer (talkcontribs) 08:29, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Ghali Leaving

Prof. Ghali is going to Singapore. We might want to make mention of this. --71.112.22.219 (talk) 07:00, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Something about Valve

Valve has a close relationship with DigiPen and they often hire employees who have gone there. Someone put something about this, cuz I'm too lazy. Smurfy 20:56, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Lots of companies regularly hire Digipen graduates, it would not make sense to single out Valve. A section could be added detailing companies that graduates have been hired by, but that seems irrelevant. Klockard (talk) 11:45, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Portal

DigiPen's Narbicular Drop was turned into Valve's Portal, we should put this somewhere. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Games1111 (talkcontribs) 02:11, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

New campus

Digipen is moving to a new campus in Summer 2010, as talked about here: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/27068/DigiPen_Moving_to_Larger_Campus_in_Summer_2010.php - I am going to add this information to the page and add this gamasutra story as a reference. Klockard (talk) 11:33, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

This sentence is irrelevant to the section it is featured in, campus. I am going to remove it. Klockard (talk) 11:42, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Neutrality?

My personal impression is that this wiki page reads like an advertisement. There seem to be several areas where it is extolling the virtues of the community in terms that don't generally appear in other wiki university pages. I would recommend a review by somebody who is more experienced (and more active) than myself. While I know little about DigiPen, I am always dubious of any for-profit universities. Munkeegutz (talk) 08:43, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

For the most part I agree with the above. As a hint, any edits from this IP are unlikely to be NPOV, as a hint. 72.5.59.138 (talk) 02:23, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
