Morse

[edit]

There are some books that claim that the Morse Pyrometer was invented by Harmon Northrop Morse, (see for instance, seemingly reliable sources like Treese, S. A. (2018). Historical Temperature. History and Measurement of the Base and Derived Units, 837–864. Springer. doi:10.1007/978-3-319-77577-7_9) but this is clearly incorrect. The 1902 patent is by Everett F. Morse of Trumansburg - https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/08/78/76/2d30bd720888ff/US696916.pdf - confusingly, this could be Everett Frank Morse or his brother Everett Fleet Morse - but it would be Fleet as seen by the interests indicated in biographies.
