Article rewrite
[edit]Article rewritten because:
1) The article is about the ray, but the text was assuming not the ray, but the weapon using it. This was clarified.
2) There is no formal, or even common explanation for what the weapons do. I.e., saying that they turn objects into atoms is true in some cases, but just unfounded speculation in others (i.e., why not into sub-atomic particles, or into uncharged compounds, or sending material entirely into another dimension)? Maintaining that their purpose is to avoid infectious corpses something I've never even heard said, and I've read 100s of science-fiction novels.
3) Since rays are used in thousands of books, films and video games, it's not appropriate to use this article as an advertisement for Foo Fighters, Destroy All Humans, etc. These should be references that are in some way significant (i.e., first written use, first filmed use.)
