Merge_proposal
[edit]It has been two years since User:The Firewall proposed a merge. That user has moved to a new identity. I, an anon, think the link from the article's merge notice to a "Merge_proposal" talk section should work, so I have today put this section in talk. Please either discuss the merge or just get rid of the stupid notice that has been sitting on top of the article for two years. 67.224.51.189 (talk) 06:28, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
- Everyone agreed two years ago - see Talk:Diwali/Archive_1#Merge_proposal but obviously it didn't work. I will rearrange the notice to link here, and ask again that it be removed. No doubt Diwali in Gujarat is special - so be it. - 67.224.51.189 (talk) 06:43, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
- This was merged out of the blue on 22 October 2011, but I've un-merged it. There's a lot wrong with the content here (see below) and dumping it in the Diwali article isn't the way to fix it. I suggest instead that we either improve the article here, or propose it for deletion. I've also made some suggestions at Talk:Diwali for what to do about it there. - I've closed this; the Diwali article now has a summary of this page and a main article link. Whether this article survives is still open (below).Moonraker12 (talk) 14:36, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Improvements needed
[edit]This article has significant problems.
There is no frame of reference, no explanation of how it relates to the general celebration of Diwali, and no explanation of the dating system. It is also unclear if the New year celebration (if that is what it is) is part of the Diwali celebration or a different one. It lacks an introduction, which would explain how and why the celebration is different in Gujarat (if it is) and thus establish notability, there is no explanation of non-english terms (which should be italicised) and no links to relevant articles (such as the articles on the individual days, which would be useful.
I suggest if it cannot be improved the content should be deleted, and the title redirected to the Diwali page. And I suggest a time limit for seeing any improvement (say four weeks) so that the matter doesn't drag on like the merge proposal did. Moonraker12 (talk) 19:42, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
- I've made some improvements; there's probably more needed. Anybody? Moonraker12 (talk) 14:37, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Diwali for Gujaratis
[edit]The Section on Diwali for Gujaratis is very true. I have grown up in Vadodara and this is precisely what I have seen and understood about Diwali the day after Diwali is the New year for Gujaratis (Besto Varsh-meaning New year) This should get a reference in the main Diwali section as a variation per state selling salt etc is so very true-I had so forgotten that activity that happened on new year morning...thank you to whoever supplied this information — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hsdesai (talk • contribs) 14:11, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Dev Devali
[edit]I've reverted the changes to this section; the Hindu festival on Kartik Poornima and the Jain festival around the same time are not the same event, any more than Christmas is celebrated by Christians and Jews alike because they both have a festival around the same time. Jains certainly don't celebrate "the lord leaving king Bali" and "rejoining the gods in jubilation". I've added some detail from the Deva Divali page to say how they do celebrate the occasion. - You just cannot revert Hindu point of view on Dev Diwali day, which is well referenced.
- If you want to add Jain view please add RS - as already stated on Talk:Deva Devali - see google book result [1], [2] almost zero results not a single book mentions it as a major festival of Jains.
- If you have reliable sources - you can add Jain view but can not delte Hindu view - please follow WP:NPOV - I have already raised issue at WT:INB - Thanks Jethwarp (talk) 04:49, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- That’s just the problem; this is not the Hindu WP and this article is not solely about Hinduism.
- If there are other religious communities in Gujarat for whom Diwali time is important then they should be described too.
- Or are you suggesting the “Hindu view” is that Diwali is owned by Hindu’s and that other religios communities in Gujarat has have no stake in it? Because that is out-and-out sectarianism. Moonraker12 (talk) 16:51, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
Vaak vs Vaagh Baras
[edit]I can't seem to find any reliable source on "Vaak" baras. The only reference seems to be this Wikipedia article, and articles that have an exact copy of the text in this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Achalddave (talk • contribs) 15:18, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
