I disagree with merge - just reference to each other as cottage industry can also refer to the small home industry work done by women in less developed countries as they make baskets, beadwork, cane chairs etc.

I disagree

agree

Of course it should be merged.

Yes.

they are pretty much the same thing.

They are related, but not the same. The putting put system is slightly more specific than the cottage industry, at least in definition. They should not be merged.

I think the putting out system refers to a specific time period and therefore a more specific phenomena. Cottage industry is a broad term that can refer to many different activities and time periods. The two should not be merged.

The putting-out system could also be applied in other sectors. So, they should indeed not be merged.

Merge discussion

[edit]

Yes, Of Course they should be! They are EXACTLY the same! I have looked at the comments in which someone else proposed merges. There are lots of assertions that they are different, but no further detail. Disagree, because the putting-out system involved the merchants, while the cottage industry just applied to those who worked in the homes, and is a vague term.

Support With all three on the same page it would be much easier to highlight their differences. -Oreo Priest 05:21, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
