obsolete?
[edit]I just found out about dump in the Linux System Administrator's Guide (http://tldp.org/LDP/sag/html/sag.html#BACKUP-TOOLS), then noticed that there's no such program on my system. I came here in the hope of finding out what has replaced it. thanks in advance?

- Mostly cpio and tar. I guess people don't use it anymore because they don't want a backup program to mess around with their filesystem blocks.
- By the way: Inline citing for this article is total overkill. --89.0.49.121 (talk) 14:03, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Updates
[edit]the word 'dump' is a word being used as a computer jargon-- a verb for describing a certain class of strict cloning. There should be a page of ambiguity linking to both 'Dump(program)' and 'Dump(Computer science verb)' as they're distinct but related.Swestlake (talk) 14:24, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
