Speedy delete

[edit]

Speedy deletion! - sure is speedy. I only just got started! (also my first article).

I was planning on writing a page similar to, but with a more balanced and complete view than the one about the related phrase 'acopia' at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acopia (not wanting to step on anybody's toes).

Also re: "Articles that contain different definitions of the topic" (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:FIRST ) - Arguably, because there are two usages of the term it could be two separate pages. However, because both usages are in the field of medicine a full discussion is in order for reasons of clarity. Someone may have a friend or relative being treated for dyscopia and will want to understand all aspects of the diagnosis (Do they have a serious post-surgical neurological impairment or are they 'just not coping').

I will await the outcome before adding more content. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kendler (talkcontribs) 06:53, 27 September 2009

Merge

[edit]

I think this needs to be merged to Acopia. The terms are used interchangeably. Don't worry about stepping on anyone's toes: we call it "improving the encyclopedia", and it's encouraged. Merging, by the way, just entails taking whatever you like best from one page and pasting it into the other page, with the result that all of the good information is in one page, all the bad information gets lost, and the contents of one page or the other is replaced by "#REDIRECT name of article", so that anyone who's looking for that page will automatically end up at the other. Any editor can do it. WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:03, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just tried the above but it got reverted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Kendler I was following the instructions on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Dyscopia regarding "MERGE",

I have merged the content of both pages onto the Dyscopia page and was trying to do the "#REDIRECT name of article" from Acopia.

I'll try again (I think I see what I did wrong). If it doesn't work perhaps I will leave this for the author of the Acopia page or the person who suggested the merge(WhatamIdoing?). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kendler (talkcontribs) 16:36, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Latin etymology

[edit]

I removed this sentence from the lead:

The correct Latin words for these conditions are dystranscribia and atranscribia.[1]

This seems dubious to me. First, neither of the terms "dystranscibia" nor "atranscribia" appear in the cited reference. Second, the terms do not seem to be in use anywhere. I see only a handful of Google hits, and as far as I can tell, all of them are copies of this Wikipedia article. "Dystranscribia" does not appear at all in Google ngrams, nor does atranscribia. Furthermore, as mentioned in the article, "dys-" is a Greek prefix, not Latin, so it's not at all clear what the "correct Latin word" claim means. My Follett Latin dictionary does not include the word, and in fact includes only two words beginning with the Greek prefix "dys-" (dysenteria and dyspnoea). This claim should be added back to the article only if a valid source is found. CodeTalker (talk) 22:12, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
