Plot Section needs rewrite

[edit]

Seriously. Without an explanation what E's are and who the characters are or what the situation is to begin with the whole section is useless and definitly not a good source on information. Heinrich k (talk) 11:07, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

E'S versus E's versus E's Otherwise

[edit]

I can see no valid reason for the manga and anime to have separate articles, so it stands to reason that this article really needs a massive clean up of plot and an overhaul to more fully cover both works. However, there is also a question of which name the article should use. The manga's name is E'S, all caps. As is the primary work and is licensed and has been fully released in English, the MOS would seem to indicate that this article should be moved to that name and the lead and infoboxes adjusted accordingly. The capitalization guide, however, may dictate that the name be set as E's instead, unless E'S is a proper noun? Thoughts?

All the sources I've found say the official manga title is E'S in both Japanese and English. The capitalization guide does recognize that some trade names (and a title is one, though it is not trademarked as such) have wonky capitalizations (iPod, anyone?). Using common sense, as the primary source, the article should be moved to E'S and refactored to initially focus on the manga. —Quasirandom (talk) 00:34, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Only the case in which the prefixes "e" or "i" are lowercase are recognized as exceptions under MOS-TM (and WP:MOS-JA#Titles of books, CDs, movies, etc. to be specific), though, and my common sense is telling me that the "'S" is a possessive apostrophe. I would go with E's, unless it's shown to be pronounced as a stand-alone "S". —tan³ tx 03:13, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Been a few months since I watched the anime, but if I remember correctly, they pronounced it as Es and it was supposed to be short for Espers (no idea where the apostrophe comes in). I haven't read the manga, though, so don't know if the usage there is the same. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 03:18, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like it's just a case of bad grammar then. I've seen plenty of song titles using "'s" where the intent was probably just the plural "s", and this disambiguation page for "School Days" on ja has "School Day's" in the disambiguation possibilities, where a posessive "'s" is incorrect. —tan³ tx 03:35, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's pronounced kind of like the letter "s" (エス, esu). The Japanese article lists it as "E'S". Per MOS-TM and MOS-JAPAN, I think we should go with "E's". It doesn't really matter if it was supposed to be plural or possessive. --Eruhildo (talk) 04:16, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alrighty, move done. I also went ahead and made E'S as a redirect. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 22:43, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To Do List

[edit]

I've done some major clean up, sourcing, etc on the article, but still lots left to do:

  • Add chapter list - likely split out to List of E's chapters since its 15 volumes long
  • Split out episode list to List of E's Otherwise episodes, add summaries
  • Add reception section[2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
  • Add production section if available
  • Add more details about light novels, CDs, and other books if available - couldn't do much as translators had trouble with all the special words
  • Rewrite plot section to cover entire story, start to finish, with main points, instead of just being a summary of the first few episodes of the anime
  • Look into possible need for List of E's characters
