Eagle's sexuality
[edit]I've heard that Eagle is reputedly homsoexual, at least in the original Japanese version of the game. Since it's not mentioned in this article, does that mean that he's not and some consensus has been reached regarding the character? Or is this rumor disproven? - You've been told fancruft, my friend. Eagle is indeed, not homosexual. Who told you these lies..? -MegamanZero|Talk 21:27, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry boys and girls, but he is. While one can question if Zangief isn't, there's actually a ton to point out that he is (he tells Morrigan for example she can't seduce him for reasons he can't elaborate on in one of his winquotes. Hell, even Guile's winquote in CvS2 hints that he's gay ("There's guys like you in the military, but no thanks for me!"). Yun tries keeping his distance from him in his A3 winquote too. Look, Tiamat's guide confirms that much, and I'd trust the guy with the official sources on things. You have a problem with it, go pick a bone with *HIM*. Also, why does it matter or not if he *is* gay? While I'm not myself, it really doesn't harm him overall as a character if he is or isn't.--Kung Fu Man 03:42, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Eagle isn't officially gay, but his "gayness" is slightly hinted at in his Jap. CvS2 win quotes. Read TiamatRoar's SF Plot Guide (ver. 4.2) for more info. Speaking of Eagle, why do his vital statistics keep getting removed? That shit is official as far as I know. Also, I'd like to point out that the backstory for Eagle that was provided by Game Spot's Street Fighter History page (http://www.gamespot.com/features/vgs/universal/sfhistory/char_eagle.html) is NOT his real backstory. He is in fact a bouncer/bodyguard and NOT a secret agent. Capcom Japan as well as several Japanese SF-related sourcebooks and websites confirm this. He's even called a bouncer in SFA3 Upper for the GBA. I think it was just some bs made up by Gamespot.com, because I haven't found any other source(s) that verify/support the whole 'secret agent' thing. KythringRB 07:34, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
If the nature of Eagle's sexuality is related to his love of Freddie Mercury, one would have to note that Freddie Mercury was bisexual and therefoe, it would behoove us to at least add "homosexual" or "bisexual" to this article. If no one objects, I shall be doing so soon.User:Anonymous
- Given his reaction to Morrigan, R. Mika, Chun-Li, Yun, Sakura, and Rock Howard...I'd say you can safely rule out bisexual, but that's the way I'm looking at it. He's shown no hint of attraction to women, if anything the complete opposite.--Kung Fu Man 15:42, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Until we can find a credible and official source that says that he is gay or whatever, we're not allowed to put anything about his sexuality. That's how Wikipedia works. Wikipedia:No original research ---SilentRAGE! 11:22, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Bojutsu vs. Unknown
[edit]- Guys, the kanji for Bojutsu can also be translated as "stick fighting". It was a bad translation. The official source says "棒術" not Bojutsu, it is in Japanese. "Bojutsu" is a wrong interpretation of the kanji source. http://sfrpg.com/2014/04/30/bojutsu-%E6%A3%92%E8%A1%93/
- Quoted from Tiamat's FAQ:
Plot guide of all games that officially exist within the canon Street
Fighter storyline, and how they fit into what has been officially confirmed as canon by Capcom of Japan. This FAQ is transcribed by Tiamat. Please do not post it to other sites without permission. Or claim credit for writing it, unless you're one of the people in the credits section, of course. In general, while Tiamat is the one that transcribed things here, more credit should probably be given to many of the people listed in the Special Thanks
section, many of whom provided MUCH of the info that went into this FAQ.
Eagle's fighting style is listed here as "bojutsu", so it's NOT speculation, otherwise it would be talked about in his "Miscellaneous notes" section. His sexuality is NOT official, but his fighting style is. Do not change the style section anymore. Danny Lilithborne 20:43, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
- Bojutsu, while official, isn't technically correct. Typical bojutsu is using the long staff, or bo. As was the case with Garou Densetsu's Billy Kane, Bojutsu here probably would better translate to "Cudgel Techniques/Arts". The S 03:04, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- I tend to err towards the official version, even when it seemingly makes no sense, because anything else would be speculation (and thus, POV-slanted). Danny Lilithborne 03:09, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- It's not really a point of view, as it is fact. For example, Wikipedia's own Bojutsu article states:
"Bojutsu (棒術) is the martial art of using a staff weapon called bo (abbreviation of roku-shaku-bo (six-shaku-staff) " Furthermore, the article on Eagle at Anipedia (although I do admit that I wrote the article), goes into more depth about Eagle's Bojutsu: "Although Eagle's fighting style is listed as Bojutsu in SFA 3 MAX, it is more than likely not the traditional style known as Bojutsu, which utilizes the long staff, or rokushakubo (commonly called simply "bo"). Instead, it probably refers to a style cudgel techniques. A similar occurance involved Billy Kane of the Fatal Fury games; although he used a three-section staff (sān jié gùn), which is wielded very differently than a bo, the games always listed him as using Bojutsu. Recently, though, in releases of games in the English language, SNK Playmore has translated his fighting style as Cudgel Craft or Cudgel Arts." As you can see, it is simply a matter of localization. I'm not suggesting that it be changed from Bojutsu to Cudgel Techniques or something in the article; simply that it should probably be made note of. The S 19:00, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- Perhaps you're right; this isn't the first time that I've bumped heads with someone based on an official stat making no sense (Ibuki). I just don't like to be the one to make the calls here. My Japanese is atrocious at best. Danny Lilithborne 01:04, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Well, if it makes you feel any better, my mastery of the Japanese language is far from it; after two and a half years plus individual study, I only know enough to get me through Tokyo for a few days. It's my knowledge of martial arts that has backed me up here. The S 02:40, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
Guilty Gear "reference"
[edit]- An anonymous user (apparently on a floating I.P.) keeps adding into the article speculation that Eagle may reference Sol Badguy simply because both characters draw from Freddie Mercury. IMO, this is nonsense. First off, Eagle was developed well before Guilty Gear was, and when CvS2 was developed, Guilty Gear was still in an infant stage. Secondly, the fact that two characters are inspired by the same real-life person doesn't mean that one is referencing the other. Freddie Mercury is a rather popular personality. I believe this is fancruft to the extreme, but I'm interested to hear what the other editors think about it. Danny Lilithborne 23:38, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oh he's harmless. Same fellow that's been inserting that nonsense on the KOF articles [1]. Its a little odd, but nothing a quick revert won't fix. -ZeroTalk 00:01, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
