This page implies that "ego" in these contexts means arrogance/similar, but I think it literally means a sense of contained agency. See ego death: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ego_death.

I apologize for not using the proper format or etiquette here, and I know that's a big deal so I ask your forgiveness.
I came to this article to see what ego reduction actually *was* - and found nothing here. If I had to explain to someone else what "ego reduction" was all I could tell them was that it was a psychological technique.
There is no description of how it is used, when it's used, what types of practices are used to apply it, what the affects are, and so on.
It's sort of like if someone went to the article on an automatic transmission for cars and all it said was, "This is a car part." - Except it would say it in a monstrously verbose way.
I think that sometimes we as experts (albeit in different fields) lose sight of the fact that Wikipedia is not an expert journal, but is for use by Joe Public.
We're sometimes seem far too interested in our lingo and magniloquence to actually be of any use. Keep it simple, and explain exactly what this "ego reduction" is for us, please. I'll look elsewhere for the information on my own, but it does defeat the purpose of Wikipedia if you already have to have a degree in the associated field to understand what the article is saying.
Thanks for entertaining my rant.
Best wishes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.150.207.190 (talk) 23:35, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
