[edit]If I remeber the story correctly, the Binkley family, used some not quite "fair" tactics to force Wescott to sell his stake.
One thing I'm certain of, the Binkleys conspired with some former employess.
I'm also certain that the Binkleys posesses a Mastodon that was unearthed at or near the mine, and was partially intact.

[edit]I suspect that the image File:El Dorado Gold Mine (2819536491).jpg used to illustrate this article (and which has been picked up several other places, including the corresponding Wikidata item) has nothing to do with this particular mine. I was first cued by its categories, one of which is Category:Gold mines in California; looking at the Flickr stream it comes from, the photographer (not, apparently, a Wikipedian or Wikimedian) was in the area of Eureka, California at the time. So I think this is the wrong image for the article (and the Wikidata item and several other places to which it has propagated. @Hailey C. Shannon: as the person who added it to this article, was that on any particular basis?
