Sam and Jack married
[edit]Did they ever say in the episode that buying a woman is the same as marrying her? I mean I get that Jack might own her according to their laws (Or might not, it's been a while since I saw the episode), but owning isn't exactly marriage. JBK405 04:46, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- Close enough for ribald comments! :-D --Grey Knight 17:11, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Eh, I think it isn't really close enough. They never state that owning somebody is the same as marriage, if that were true then fathers would be automatically married to their daughters, brothers to their sisters, etc. It's to much of an assumption. JBK405 01:41, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
"* Because Col. O'Neill procures the release of Capt. Carter by trading his Beretta side-arm for her, many fans of the apparent romance of Jack and Samantha indulge in the notion that for all intents and purposes of the Shavadai culture this makes them husband and wife - a fact Daniel wisely forgoes mentioning to the two of them, probably in the interest of self-preservation."
Mongol Society
[edit]Should not we discuss Mongols are the people whose women has very good status in society in real world? Have not I watched carefully? I am at 1st season.Ayasi 22:41, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
The Mongols of the episode treated their women horrendously, true, and if that was presented as descending from our own Mongols then I feel it should be mentioned within the article as an error, but they specifically mention within the episode that the laws controlling women were created in response to the Goa'uld, hiding women from the ruling "demons." It's not said to represent true Mongol society, rather the way their society changed once they were brought off-world and ruled by the Goa'uld. As such, I don't think it's really worth puting into the article beyond being mentioned in relevent points in the plot summary. JBK405 22:50, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Being Bold
[edit]OK ... I'm gonna take a shot at getting this back into it's own article. see SG-1 ANY and ALL help is greatly appreciated. Ched Davis (talk) 00:00, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- WOW ... thought it would be an hour or so, but the episode played through 4 full times before I could get it good enough to repost. I did remove the redirect, and posted a revamped article in mainspace now. This is gonna be a lot more involved than I thought. I tried to leave as much of the original posters work as I could and still have it presentable. I added several sections that I hope the wiki admins will see as making this episode notable. I'll archive my efforts for now on my User Pages, check back in a few days, and if I don't get my hands slapped too bad ... then I'll work on that whole boring thing with citations a bit. For now, I've got to take a break from this episode ... be back shortly .... and I'd appreciate ANY and ALL editing you guys wanna do. Happy Holidays to all Ched Davis (talk) 03:40, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'll wait thru the weekend, and unless something shows up here, I'm going to try to revert my edit back to a redirect per request. Kind Regards, Ched Davis (talk) 13:34, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
Reverting or rather replacing the redirect per community preferences. So I guess this little wikipedia project gets tucked back into the history archives. The reason I am replacing it rather than revert is simply an ego thing, at least this way 5 hours of unpaid work are archived somewhere outside my own HD. My best to all the "gaters" out there ... "live long and ..." ooops, sorry ... ahhhh... "Oh for crying out loud", I just don't have a good quote here. Everyone have a good holiday season, and a good life.
