Hospital rating?

[edit]

Is there any independent ratings of overall hospital quality? The reason I ask is due these matters:

  • State finds neglect in woman’s suicide at ECMC.[1]
  • Former ECMC nurse awarded $1.2 million in sick-leave dispute.[2]

ECMC has a 3 star Yelp rating and Buffalo General Hospital has a 4 star Yelp rating.[3][4]

It doesn't seem like the hospital is run very well overall. As a whole, Buffalo General Hospital seems to be a better alternative. Knox490 (talk) 19:38, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Well I wouldn't want to be treated there, but that's not important. I am sure there are reliable ratings websites that compare the two hospitals. Buffaboy talk 19:41, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I know US News and World Report rates medical specialties at hospitals, but I am not aware of overall hospital rankings. For example, for ears, nose and throat ECMC was ranked 40.8 out of 100 by US News and World Report.[5]. For geriatric care, ECMC Hospital scores 35.1 out of 100 by US News and World Report.[6] Its Diabetes & Endocrinology Scorecard by US News and World Report was 41.0 out of 100.[7] Its Neurology & Neurosurgery Scorecard by US News and World Report was 24.1 out of 100.[8] Knox490 (talk) 20:00, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I found what I was looking for and it gave Erie County Medical Center low marks in several areas: Healthgrades evaluation of Erie County Medical Center - patient safety.
For example, according to healthgrades, Erie County Medical Center has an above average of patient deaths (death in procedures where mortality is usually very low; Death following a serious complication after surgery).[9] Knox490 (talk) 03:24, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect someone in their PR department removed legitimate information. I restored it

[edit]

Due to the fact that someone merely edits articles related to this healthcare provider and due to the fact that their edit summary was inaccurate, I suspect someone in their PR department or a PR company removed legitimate information from this article.

I restored the information below and please restore the material if it is removed:

Healthgrades is a United States based company that provides information about physicians, hospitals and health care providers. According to Healthgrades, which indicates it based its results on Medicare/Medicaid data, ECMC has higher than expected deaths in procedures where mortality is usually very low and higher than expected deaths following a serious complication after surgery.[10]

On January 19, 2015, the Buffalo Evening News indicated that a report by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine criticized ECMC for "serving some of the least-healthy food options of any public hospital in the country. The Grider Street hospital received the fourth-lowest score, out of 200 hospitals reviewed, because it is home to three fast-food restaurants and because its cardiac patient menu has some items that aren’t heart-friendly."[11] Knox490 (talk) 04:16, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at the IP number of the person who edited the entries and the person appears to be on the staff of the Erie County Medical Center as the IP address is from that institution. I suspect it was someone in their marketing/PR department. Knox490 (talk) 04:43, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The IP address used to remove the legitimate information according to edit history was 161.136.101.79 According to a free IP look up service, the IP address is from the Erie County Medical Center as can be seen at: FREE ip LOOKUP SERVICE. Knox490 (talk) 05:20, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, this is definitely a rep for the company. They keep editing pages related only to healthcare in this particular town to prop their doctors up. I'm pretty new to this, can we flag the IP for disruptive editing/WP:WWIN ? Update: I went ahead and did it, this seems pretty clear-cut. If anyone disagrees (except the PR rep), the edit trail is there for you to follow and revert. 157.235.66.80 (talk) 13:48, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
